Frequently asked questions
What is CalPal AI?
CalPal AI is an AI calorie counter and food tracker for iPhone and Android. Point your camera at a meal and it logs the calories, macros and micronutrients for you — no searching a database entry by entry. It also scans barcodes, keeps a daily diary, and syncs with your wearables.
How does CalPal count calories from a photo?
The app identifies the foods in your photo, estimates portion sizes, and matches them against its nutrition database to produce a calorie and macro breakdown. You can correct any item before saving, and your corrections improve later estimates.
Is CalPal AI free?
Yes. CalPal AI is free to download and free to use for everyday calorie and macro tracking. CalPal Pro is an optional in-app upgrade that unlocks advanced insights and higher scan limits.
Does CalPal track macros and micronutrients?
It does. Every logged meal breaks down into protein, carbohydrates and fat, plus micronutrients, so you can follow a macro target rather than only a calorie number.
Which apps and devices does CalPal sync with?
CalPal syncs with Apple Health, Google Fit, Health Connect, Garmin and Strava, so workouts and activity from your watch land next to your food log in one place.
Can CalPal AI help me lose weight?
CalPal sets a daily calorie and macro target from your height, weight, age, activity level and goal, then tracks you against it. Consistent logging is what makes a calorie deficit visible — and CalPal is built to make logging fast enough to keep up. It is a tracking tool, not medical advice.
How accurate is the AI food scan?
Photo estimates are very good for typical, clearly visible meals and less certain for mixed dishes, sauces and hidden ingredients. Every estimate is editable, and for packaged food the barcode scanner gives you the exact label values.
